As part of an initiative to increase the numbers of ‘girls in science’, we took 30 Yr 7 students to the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) in Newport.

St Julian’s School is partnered with the IPO as part of our BITC Careers Wales Business Class agreement.  Both organisations frequently work together, mutually benefitting from projects and initiatives throughout the year.

The aim of the day was to ‘Inspire, Enthuse & Engage’ the students in scientific activities and the feedback was superb.  The girls took part in activities related to space and personality types, received a presentation on famous female inventors and various team challenges.

They also took part in a number of thought provoking discussions and an interactive presentation from the IPO’s ‘Rock Doctor’ based on how physics is applied in music.

The initiative will be supported within the science curriculum back at school and we look forward to seeing what these young scientists do in the future.
