Update November 2017

Following recent queries regarding the new Student Reception and open plan toilets, we would like to take this opportunity to update you on how the project is progressing. Building work started during October Half Term and is currently on schedule to be completed on time. The official opening of the newly developed areas will take place when we return in January, following the school holidays. This area will be open plan, boys will be on the left hand side and girls on the right. Separating them will be several sinks and hand dryers down the centre. All toilet cubicles will have floor to ceiling doors. Open plan toilets offer several benefits including a reduction in antisocial behaviour and bullying. The design of the cubicles provides complete privacy for students while an open hand wash area offers open supervision.

Below is an updated 3D design of this project.

As mentioned previously, this investment is designed to improve the existing facilities we have for our students. The well-being of our students is always our uppermost concern. The area will be supervised by our Student Receptionist throughout the day who provides bespoke support as part of our Student Services team. It will also be supervised by two additional members of staff during break and lunch times.

Additional toilet facilities are also available in the Jubilee building.

Over the past year we have been working with Newport Norse who are the school’s corporate landlord in developing future building enhancement plans for the school and have recently received news of additional capital funding.

Over the next academic year we should see the development of the main building toilets/Student Reception entrance area, double glazing windows and expansion of the current café facilities with the introduction of a new outdoor space for students to enjoy.

These projects will happen in three stages, the first being our new toilets. A final project meeting is taking place this week and we hope to see the work commence shortly afterwards. The new toilets and Student Reception entrance should be ready for the third week back when we return after October half term.
