Dear Parents, Carers and Members of Our School Community,
Collaboration
This month at St Julian’s, we are focusing on the school value of collaboration — the power of working together to achieve something greater than we could alone. We began by marking the anniversary of the Chartist movement in assembly, a powerful reminder of how collective action helped shape the democratic freedoms we enjoy today, right here in Newport. The Chartists’ courage and unity continue to inspire us, and their legacy reminds us that when people come together with a shared purpose, real change is possible. In school, we’re encouraging our pupils and staff to reflect on how collaboration strengthens our learning, our relationships, and our community spirit.
Year 11 Parent’s evening and upcoming events
It was absolutely lovely to see so many parents at our Year 11 Parents’ Evening—thank you for your continued support. Year 11 have had a particularly busy week, with students sitting their Mathematics-Numeracy GCSEs, and we’re incredibly proud of the focus and determination they’ve shown. Looking ahead, we’re excited to welcome Year 11 students and their families to our Year 11 into Year 12 Pathways Evening on Thursday 13th November. This is a fantastic opportunity to explore everything St Julian’s Sixth Form has to offer—from our wide range of courses to the outstanding results and enrichment opportunities that make our sixth form such a special place to learn and grow. We hope to see you there!
Swimming instructors
We’re incredibly proud of Khadija and Fateha Islam from St Julian’s School, who are among the few Muslim swimming teachers in the UK. Their journey, recently featured on ITV News, is breaking barriers and inspiring others. Khadija is training to teach independently, while Fateha hopes to support children with additional needs. Both are passionate about making swimming more inclusive. Their courage and commitment are truly inspiring.
Sporting success
It’s been another fantastic week of sport at St Julian’s School, with our teams showing great skill, teamwork and determination. Both our Year 10 and Year 8 rugby teams secured convincing wins against The John Frost School, while Year 8 also triumphed in football, beating Rougemont in the Newport Cup. Meanwhile, our Year 9 netball team put in a strong performance in their first game of the season, narrowly missing out on a win against Caldicot. Well done to all our players—your commitment and sportsmanship continue to make us proud!
Foodbank, Children in Need and Anti-bullying week
A big thank you to the Beechwood Park Women’s Institute for their very kind donation to our foodbank this week. As part of Children in Need on Friday 14th November, students do not need to wear their blazer to school on that day, if they bring in a donation to our foodbank. In addition, to celebrate anti-bullying week, we encourage students to wear odd socks to school.
And finally ….
