Mobile Data Allowances
We would like to make you aware of some recent opportunities to support learners who do not have access to a home broadband connection. Parents/guardians who have contracts with BT Mobile, EE, Three and SMARTY are currently able to apply for mobile data uplifts for the period up to 31st July 2021 via the school. If you would like to apply for this, please contact email@example.com.
Post-16 learners may be the named mobile contract account holder; if so, they are eligible to apply for an uplift in their own name.
Please be aware that this will involve the school collecting and sharing personal data.
Welsh Government has also circulated some suggestions about internet connectivity that you may find helpful:
- BT Voucher Scheme (https://www.businessdirect.bt.com/learning-in-lockdown) The scheme allows families to access the BT WiFi hotspots across the UK. This is available to all schools, although BT do advise that vouchers are offered on a limited basis. The scheme is based around allocating vouchers in proportion to the number of pupils at a school who are eligible for free school meals
- Domestic Broadband Social Tariff (vhttps://www.bt.com/help/landline/getting-set-up/help-people-with-impairments-or-with-particular-needs/how-do-i-find-out-more-about-bt-basic) – BT offers a social tariff for low income families - BT Basic. BT Basic provides fixed broadband and a phone line service for £10 a month (with fixed caps for call usage). This option provides a long term solution for low income families and offers a sustainable approach, which could also be of interest to some families who are not digitally excluded.
- Vodafone VOXI Job Seeker Offering (https://newscentre.vodafone.co.uk/press-release/voxi-offers-unlimited-voice-and-data-plan-to-job-seekers-for-10-quid/) – Vodafone have an offer called Voxi which includes unlimited data for £10 a month for families claiming Jobseekers Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance or Employment-based Universal Credit.
