St Julians School

Rugby 7s Tournament

Last week St. Julian’s School a Rugby 7s Tournament, which involved all the local secondary schools in the Gwent community. This involved two sets of teams from each school for the tournament; an ‘A Team’ and a ‘B Team’ for years 7 and 8.

After a proudly successful winning stint winning all of their group games,  St Julian’s School ‘A Team’ were unfortunately knocked out by a strong Caerleonside in the semi final of the Cup. Despite losing all of their games, our ambitious B team still had plenty of fun & scored some good tries throughout the day!

There were many of team members from St Julian's school that won awards over thr course of the day. One of these was the player of the tournament who went to Aron, Year 7, for his incredible pace which helped him score a number of tries, as well as using that speed to chase and stop the opposition from scoring. In addition to this triumph, the Men of Steel award went to Alfie, Year 7 and Jacob, Year 7, who between them made a huge number of tackles and turnovers. Well done boys!

Our brilliant Rugby Leaders were a great help throughout both days, helping to referee games, coach & complete the result matrix. Their support meant that each team knew exactly who and where they were playing in the knockout stages.

A huge thank you St Julian’s HSOB RFC and Newport Live for allowing ourselves and the other participating schools for using their fantastic facilities and assistance for the duration of the tournament. Not only using their grounds, St Julian’s HSOB RFC also assisted in the set-up and take down of the tournament; an aspect much appreciated by those involved. Newport Live generously donated gazebos and even an inflatable passing station in order to keep the students from each team preoccupied throughout the day.
