St Julians School

Governing Body

The Governors with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team have the responsibility for the overall direction of the school. The Governing body includes Governors appointed by the Local Authority, Community, Staff and Parents.

The Governing Body is an effective critical friend, it supports the school successfully and sets challenging targets for improvement. Governors play a strong role in setting the school's strategic direction and are highly effective in the challenge and support they provide.

One way Governors do this is through their role as link governors. Each subject area in the school is clustered with other subjects and each cluster is allocated two link governors.  These individuals support and challenge their departments to help them make sustained progress. They do this by meeting throughout the year with the Head of the Department to examine the progress the department is making in implementing its Departmental Development Plan, to ask critical questions and to support the work of the department. Link Governors are also invited to attend exam analysis meetings in the autumn term and they take an active role in meeting with the Head of the Department to discuss departmental self-evaluation findings.
