About Us
St Julian’s is a successful, popular and over-subscribed 11-18 secondary school situated in Newport, South Wales with a population of around 1,600 students. We enjoy a strong reputation in the local community for providing high quality education across a wide spectrum of abilities. St Julian’s is an exciting, inclusive school with a dedicated and committed staff. We are passionate about education and strive for our students to become confident individuals who make a positive contribution to their local and national communities. We aim to provide our students with a balanced education for life within a caring environment. We have an excellent reputation for nurturing our students and providing opportunities for every student in our care to succeed.
Our two cluster schools are St Julian's Primary and Glan Usk Primary. However, a significant number of students join us from Eveswell and Maindee primary schools, together with students from other schools across the city.
The main school building, which was opened in 1941, has undergone extensive internal refurbishment and is well maintained throughout. There are two additional buildings – the Jubilee Building and the Technology Block. An integral part of the school is a Learning Development Centre (LDC) for 60 Moderate Learning Disability students drawn from the whole of Newport. The LDC makes a very positive contribution to the school’s inclusive ethos. The School works very closely with its Local Authority, Newport City Council, and the EAS (Education Achievement Service) together with many other partners in a wide variety of sectors. All eight secondary schools in Newport work closely together to provide an extensive Post-16 collaborative curriculum for our learners. We work particularly closely with our preferred partner, Lliswerry High School.
